Versatile pattern that can be used to make placemats, coasters, pillow covers and rugs

How to choose the Yarn?
100% Cotton or blended yarn - for placemats, coasters, rugs and pillow cases
100% Acrylic or blended yarn - for placemats, coasters and pillow cases
T-Shirt yarn - for placemats, coasters, rugs and pillow cases
Avoid using 100% wool, as the above mentioned projects upon repeated wash may cause the fibres to break.
Abbreviations:
Approx = Approximately
Beg = Beginning
Ch = Chain(s)
Rep = Repeat
Sl st = Slip stitch
sc = Single Crochet
dc = Double Crochet

Instructions :
Beg with slip knot and Ch 5, sl st with the first chain to form a ring ( Or start with a Magic Ring)
Row 1 - Ch 3 ,2 dc in the ring , Ch2 . Rep 3 dc , Ch2 5 times. Sl st with the 3rd chain in beginning of the row.
Row 2 - Sl st in next 2 st(s) to reach the ch2 space. Now Ch 3 , 2 dc , Ch2, 3 dc (in the ch2 space). Move to next Ch2 space and Rep 3dc , ch2 , 3dc till you reach the last ch2 space. Sl st with the 3rd chain in beginning of the row .
Row 3 - Sl st in next 2 st(s) to reach the ch2 space. Now Ch 3 , 2 dc , Ch2 (in the ch2 space). Skip 3dc (Ch2 space in every alternate) and Rep 3dc , ch2, till you reach the last ch2 space. Sl st with the 3rd chain in beginning of the row .
Row 4 - Sl st in next 2 st(s) to reach the ch2 space. Now Ch 3 , 2 dc , Ch2 (in the ch2 space). Move to next Ch2 space and Rep 3dc , ch2 till you reach the last ch2 space. Sl st with the 3rd chain in beginning of the row .
Row 5 - Sl st in next 2 st(s) to reach the ch2 space. Now Ch 3 , 2 dc , Ch2, 3 dc (in the ch2 space). Move to next Ch2 space and Rep 3dc , ch2 , 3dc till you reach the last ch2 space. Sl st with the 3rd chain in beginning of the row .
Row 6 - Sl st in next 2 st(s) to reach the ch2 space. Now Ch 3 , 2 dc , Ch2 (in the ch2 space). Skip 3dc (Ch2 space in every alternate) and Rep 3dc , ch2 till you reach the last ch2 space. Sl st with the 3rd chain in beginning of the row .
Row 7 - Sl st in next 2 st(s) to reach the ch2 space. Now Ch 3 , 2 dc , Ch2 (in the ch2 space). Move to next Ch2 space and Rep 3dc , ch2 till you reach the last ch2 space. Sl st with the 3rd chain in beginning of the row .
Finishing:
You can finish the circular granny at this stage by fastening of the thread (or) add a row as border to the pattern by making a sc around the circle.
How to increase the circular granny further?
The subsequent row can be increased similar to how a circular base for basket would be increased.
The circle granny pattern in 1 row of increase and next few rows of 3dc, ch2 (in alternate ch2 space). The increase beyond the as follows:
Row 8 - (Increasing row) - Sl st in next 2 st(s) to reach the ch2 space. Now Ch 3 , 2 dc , Ch2, 3 dc (in the ch2 space). Move to next Ch2 space and make 3dc ch2. Rep 3dc , ch2 , 3dc and 3dc ch 2 in next Ch2 space till you reach the last ch2 space. Sl st with the 3rd chain in beginning of the row . (Every alternate Ch2 space it is 3dc , Ch2 . That is the only change from Row 2)
row 9, 10, 11 - Sl st in next 2 st(s) to reach the ch2 space. Now Ch 3 , 2 dc , Ch2 (in the ch2 space). Move to next Ch2 space and Rep 3dc , ch2 till you reach the last ch2 space. Sl st with the 3rd chain in beginning of the row .
Row 12 to Row 15 is repeat of Row 8 to Row 11.
